A few dozen people gathered this morning at 10.00 near the Le Constellation bar in Crans-Montana (VS) to pay homage to the dead and injured in the New Year’s Eve fire in the club. The initiative was initiated by relatives of the victims.
(Keystone-ATS) The tribute began with a laying of flowers near the site of the tragedy, Keystone-ATS reporters on site noted. Among those present were several relatives and friends of the victims, as well as Roze, 18, who suffered burns in the disaster.
Chargé d’affaires of the Italian Embassy present
The chargé d’affaires of the Italian embassy in Bern, Diana Forte, also participated in the ceremony. “To once again testify to Italy’s solidarity and closeness to the families of the victims, both the deceased and the injured. For us it is very important to demonstrate that we are always present, as we have been since the first days,” he told Keystone-ATS.
The ceremony ended with a minute’s silence in tribute to the 41 victims and 115 injured. Subsequently, the participants in the initiative were invited to a commemorative lunch in Vétroz, a town just west of Sion.
For several days, a flyer has been repeatedly published on social networks inviting people to go to the Valais town today “in memory of the missing people and in support of our injured during the tragic event in Crans-Montana”. Under the banner of “remembrance, sharing and commemoration”, the event was open to all.
