Tottenham Hotspur head coach Thomas Frank has confirmed that Cristian Romero will remain as team captain and will not face disciplinary action following a recent social media post expressing frustration after a 3-2 loss to Bournemouth ESPN.

Romero’s Controversial Post and Apology

After the defeat at Bournemouth, Romero issued an apology to Spurs fans via Instagram but also appeared to criticize figures within the club, stating, “at times like this, it should be other people coming out to speak, but they don’t.” He further noted that some individuals “onyl show up when things are going well,” while acknowledging the team’s responsibility for the outcome.

This isn’t the first time Romero has used social media to express his views. In June, he posted a message acknowledging “the many obstacles that always existed and always will exist” when paying tribute to the recently sacked manager, Ange Postecoglou.

Frank Defends Romero and Emphasizes Club Alignment

Despite the controversy, Frank stated that Romero will not be fined and that the matter has been addressed internally.”He is our captain, he’s not been fined,” Frank said. “That’s an internal thing, but we haven’t done that. I think there’s a lot of ways to deal with different situations. we’ve chose to have a good conversation with him, understand where he stands, handle it internally and that’s everything I have to say.”

Frank also addressed concerns about whether Romero’s comments reflect a lack of alignment within the club, stating, “That I can’t and you probably need to ask him.It is not that often he does do the press, so you need to wait until you speak to him, but what I know he has been here for five years, that’s one thing.” He reiterated his belief in the club’s unity, adding, “And what I know is I look at where I have been here for seven months and I see a very aligned club, so it’s just up to us to prove that.”

Frank dismissed the idea that Romero’s remarks would deter potential January signings, asserting that “clever players and agents can look through if there’s a little bit of noise.” He emphasized that the club, including himself, Johan Lange, and Vinai Venkatesham, along with the ownership, are aligned in their goals.

Injury Updates Ahead of FA Cup Match

Tottenham will be without several key players for their upcoming FA Cup match against Aston Villa. Lucas Bergvall (groin) and Rodrigo Bentancur (hamstring) sustained injuries during the Bournemouth match. Mohammed Kudus is not expected to return until after the March international break, and Dejan Kulusevski is anticipated to be out until February.

frank provided an update on Kulusevski’s condition, stating, “If anyone can come back quicker it’s Deki [Kulusevski]. The most crucial thing is to remove the pain in the knee and he got an injection 10 days ago and we’ll know in three to four weeks whether that has settled. And when it’s settled, hopefully he’ll be on the grass and from there we’ll see what’s happening.”
