Cuban Judo Coaches and Athlete Honored with Pan American Judo Confederation Awards

HAVANA, Cuba – Cuban judo has been recognized for excellence with several awards from the Pan American Judo Confederation (PJC) for 2025. Coaches Julio Alderete and Ivis Dueñas Alonso, along with athlete Luis Torres Cobas, have been honored for their contributions to the sport.

Award Recipients

Julio Alderete was awarded as the Senior Coach of the Year, while Ivis Dueñas Alonso received the honor as the Paralympic Judo / Adapted Coach of the Year. Luis Torres Cobas was selected in the Veteran Men’s category as an athlete.

PJC Recognition

The Pan American Judo Confederation highlighted that these awards recognize not only exceptional sporting results but also the embodiment of the values of Professor Jigoro Kano, the founder of Judo. The PJC stated that the winners met the highest standards established in their Evaluation and Voting Manual.
