In November, the Canisius Wilhelmina Ziekenhuis (CWZ) in Nijmegen is drawing renewed attention to prostate and testicular cancer by placing an information stand in its hospital restaurant, De Brug Nijmegen reported. Visitors can speak with experts and people with personal experience about the medical, mental, and social impacts of these diagnoses.
Information Stand and Self-Examination Demonstrations
Oncologieverpleegkundige Angelique Koen sees the extensive impact of these cancers daily, noting that the medical treatment represents only part of the challenge. “We want to encourage men to talk about their health, but also about subjects that often remain unspoken, such as sexuality or mental support,” Koen said, according to De Brug Nijmegen. “Starting the conversation can already make a big difference.”
Throughout November, healthcare providers from CWZ will share the stand with representatives from the Stichting Zaadbalkanker, the Prostaatkankerstichting, and the Marikenhuis. These organizations will answer questions and provide demonstrations of self-examination to give visitors practical tools for spotting physical changes. Specific times for expert availability are posted directly at the stand.
Tenth Anniversary of the Prosper Collaborative Network
This year’s campaign coincides with preparations for the tenth anniversary of Prosper, which will be marked in 2026. Prosper is a specialized collaborative network connecting CWZ, the Catharina Ziekenhuis, the Radboudumc, and the Máxima MC to deliver high-quality prostate cancer care. To celebrate the milestone, the network is organizing a public lecture for patients, relatives, referring physicians, and healthcare professionals to review a decade of results and look ahead to the future of treatment. Registration details are available on the CWZ website.
