Chinese memory chipmaker ChangXin Memory Technologies (CXMT) has started mass production of its advanced LPDDR6 DRAM chips, securing Xiaomi as its first major customer for the upcoming Xiaomi 18 Fold smartphone, according to Reuters and TechPowerUp. The milestone positions CXMT alongside South Korean memory giants in bringing the next-generation mobile memory standard to market.
CXMT LPDDR6 Specifications and Performance
This rollout arrives less than a year after CXMT achieved mass production of its previous-generation LPDDR5 chips, according to Reuters. The Hefei-based company confirmed that it has already shipped LPDDR6 DRAM samples to customers for use across mobile devices, servers, and smart cars, indicating high initial production yields.
Integration in the Xiaomi 18 Fold
Both companies confirmed the supply agreement on China’s Weibo social media platform.
The Xiaomi 18 Fold is also expected to utilize a new version of Xiaomi’s in-house 3-nanometre handset processor, the Xring O3, which is engineered to support the high-speed LPDDR6 standard, as reported by Reuters. The integration highlights a push by Chinese device makers to adopt domestically sourced high-performance hardware.
Market Position and Financial Growth
SK Hynix has previously announced its own LPDDR6 modules on the sixth-generation 10nm node (1c) running at up to 14.4 Gbps.
CXMT’s manufacturing milestone follows a sharp financial turnaround. In its first earnings release since listing, CXMT reported a profit in the first half of the year, with revenue surging 874% year-over-year to 150.3 billion yuan ($22.36 billion), according to Reuters. Concurrently, Reuters reported that CXMT filed a lawsuit against the Pentagon over its placement on a U.S. list alleging ties to China’s military, a matter for which the Pentagon declined to comment.
