Dacia’s Hybrid-G 150 4×4: A First-of-its-Kind Powertrain
Dacia is pioneering a novel powertrain with the introduction of the Hybrid-G 150 4×4, a bi-fuel LPG hybrid system that uniquely combines hybrid technology, LPG fuel capability, and all-wheel drive. This system is now available on both the Duster and Bigster models, marking a significant step in Dacia’s powertrain offerings.
Understanding the Hybrid-G 150 4×4 System
The Hybrid-G 150 4×4 isn’t a traditional full hybrid. Instead, it’s a more sophisticated mild hybrid system. At its core is a 1.2-liter three-cylinder TCe engine utilizing the Miller cycle and a modern turbocharger with tilting blades. The system includes a 48V starter-generator (12 kW, 55 Nm), a six-speed dual-clutch transmission, a 0.839kWh traction battery, and two 50-liter tanks – one for gasoline and one for LPG.
A key innovation is the electric motor driving the rear axle (21 kW, 87 Nm) with its own two-speed gearbox, creating an all-wheel-drive capability without the need for a traditional cardan shaft or inter-axle differential. This design contributes to lower fuel consumption compared to conventional 4×4 systems.
Performance and Efficiency
Dacia claims the Hybrid-G 150 4×4 allows for short periods of electric-only driving at low speeds. Combined with the dual fuel options, the system offers a potential range of up to 1,300 kilometers.
The Dacia Bigster 1.2 TCe (150 Hp) hybrid-G 4×4 DCT achieves a fuel economy of 5.8-5.9 l/100 km (40.6 – 39.9 US mpg or 48.7 – 47.9 UK mpg). CO2 emissions are rated at 132-134 g/km, meeting Euro 6e-bis standards.
The Bigster with this powertrain can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 10.4 seconds and reach a top speed of 180 km/h (111.85 mph).
Off-Road Capabilities and Handling
The Hybrid-G 150 4×4 offers multiple four-wheel-drive modes, including a Lock mode. Ground clearances of 217 mm (Duster) and 220 mm (Bigster) enhance off-road performance. The system allows for comfortable movement on varied terrain, including gravel, muddy inclines, and stream crossings.
Dacia states that in urban environments, the vehicle can operate on electric power up to 60% of the time, and can run solely on battery power up to 140 km/h.
Practical Considerations
Integrating the Hybrid-G 150 4×4 technology results in a slightly reduced luggage capacity: 400 liters for the Duster and 556 liters for the Bigster. The system’s complexity also means more components requiring servicing.
Pricing and Availability
As of March 2026, the Duster Hybrid-G 4×4 starts at 645,900 CZK, while the Bigster Hybrid-G 4×4 is priced at 699,900 CZK.
