Daegu Submits Bid for Education Innovation Leading Region Designation

Talent retention through customized settlement conditions is true regional balanced development, Daegu Superintendent of Education Kang Eun-hee said as the city entered a joint municipal bid to overhaul public schooling and curb talent drain.

The Daegu Metropolitan Office of Education and the Daegu Metropolitan Government submitted their official application on October 6 for the Ministry of Education’s Education Innovation Leading Region initiative, according to a report by Daegu Munhwa Broadcasting Corporation (Daegu MBC). The program evolves out of the previous Education Development Special Zone pilot project, aiming to let local governments, education offices, and communities jointly reshape public education to support national balanced development.

Gunwi County Builds 15-Year Educational Cluster Model

The application splits into two distinct tracks based on local demographic needs, as Daegu MBC reported. Type 1 targets depopulating areas, with Gunwi County Office and the Gunwi Office of Education participating under the vision of Visiting Education City Gunwi.

Gunwi County is using its rural school innovation background to build a 15-year educational cluster linking kindergarten through high school. The plan overhauls both regular curricula and after-school programs operating inside and outside local schools.

Daegu Metropolitan City Expands Care Ecosystem and Regional Talent Pathways

Type 2 targets non-capital regional municipalities, encompassing Daegu proper, its eight district and county offices, and the metropolitan education office, according to Daegu MBC. This track focuses on narrowing local educational disparities through tailored public schooling and expanding neighborhood-based after-school care ecosystems.

The city intends to link local university and industrial resources to establish structured pathways where students can learn, work, and stay within the region. Superintendent Kang emphasized that community-wide participation in these reforms will drive Daegu’s future growth.
