Daegu Dong-gu Launches ‘Our Neighborhood Green Station’ Initiative to Enhance Recycling
Daegu Dong-gu Office is piloting a new initiative, “Our Neighborhood Green Station,” to improve waste separation practices and reduce illegal dumping within the district. The program, launched in February 2026, establishes dedicated collection stations in residential areas, coupled with the deployment of resource circulation managers working in conjunction with the Dong-gu Senior Club.
Pilot Program Details
As of March 2026, a total of 15 Green Stations – three per building – have been installed across several neighborhoods within Dong-gu, including Sincheon 1·2-dong, Hyomok 2-dong, Jijeo-dong, Ansim 3-dong and Ansim 4-dong. Daegu City is supporting this initiative.
Resource Circulation Managers and Senior Club Collaboration
To maximize the program’s effectiveness, resource circulation managers are collaborating with the Dong-gu Senior Club. This partnership aims to not only maintain the cleanliness of surrounding areas but also to educate residents on proper waste separation techniques. This collaborative approach leverages the experience and community involvement of senior citizens.
District Official’s Statement
Acting Dong-gu Mayor Kim Tae-un emphasized the importance of resource recycling and the district’s commitment to creating a sustainable environment through the pilot operation of the Green Stations. He stated the initiative will raise awareness about the value of resource recycling.
Dong-gu Overview
Dong District (Dong-gu) is located in the northeastern part of Daegu, South Korea. As of September 2024, the district had a population of 343,398, covering 182.15 km2, approximately 20% of Daegu’s total area. Dong-gu first emerged as the “eastern district office” in 1938 and achieved gu status in 1963. Administrative divisions within Dong-gu include Sinam-dong, Sincheon-dong, Hyomok-dong, and others.
Station Access and Location
Dong-gu Office Station (formerly Keungogae Station) on Daegu Metro Line 1 provides access to the area. While the station is named for the Dong-gu Office, the office is closer to Ayanggyo Station. However, Dong-gu Office Station offers a more accessible and level walking route. Dong-gu Office Station opened on May 2, 1998.
