Daejeon Seo-gu Inspects Children’s Favorite Foods for Nutrition and Allergies
Daejeon Seo-gu is inspecting 132 food establishments that cook and sell children’s favorite foods from October 26 to 30 to check compliance with nutrition and allergen labeling regulations, Chungcheong Metro reported. The district-led evaluation targets franchise locations with 50 or more branches that specialize in bakery items, ice cream, hamburgers, and pizza.
Scope of the October Inspection
Inspectors are evaluating whether businesses correctly display mandatory nutritional components, which include calories, sugars, proteins, saturated fat, and sodium. The checks also cover 22 allergen-triggering ingredients such as milk and peanuts. Officials are verifying that these labels appear in easily accessible locations within rest restaurants, general restaurants, and bakeries. Beyond physical storefronts, the review extends to digital menus on major delivery applications including Baemin, Yogiyo, Coupang Eats, and Dangkyeo. For locations situated within designated children’s food safety protection zones, staff are checking adherence to baseline hygiene rules.
Insufficient Labeling Leads to Fines and Penalties
Businesses found with insufficient labeling are receiving administrative guidance to correct their displays. Establishments that fail to improve after this initial warning face fines and other regulatory penalties under existing laws. District Chief Jeon Min-hak stated that the inspections aim to provide accurate food information to children and guardians while building a safer eating environment for young residents.
