Mavericks Acquire Tyus Jones from Hornets in Trade

DALLAS – The Dallas Mavericks have traded for guard Tyus Jones from the Charlotte Hornets, acquiring him in exchange for Malaki branham, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania.

The move provides the Mavericks with a veteran point guard, adding depth to their backcourt. Dallas sent branham, who originally came to the team in a trade involving Anthony Davis, to Charlotte for jones.

Jones is on a one-year, $7 million contract. The acquisition comes after the Mavericks cleared approximately $70 million in future salary cap space with the recent trade of Davis, as reported by ESPN’s Tim MacMahon.

With the addition of Jones, the Mavericks now boast five players who are alumni of Duke university: Cooper Flagg, Kyrie Irving, Dereck Lively II, Marvin bagley III, and Jones. Bagley III joined the Mavericks as part of the eight-player trade that sent Davis to the Washington Wizards.

The NBA trade deadline closed at 2 p.m. CT on February 5th. The Mavericks front office has focused on accumulating draft capital and developing younger players around cornerstone player Cooper Flagg with their recent moves.
