Guest of the Grande Édition on i24NEWS, political analyst Daniel Haïk questioned Israel’s dependence on Donald Trump’s decisions regarding Iran, described as an existential threat to the Jewish state.
According to him, Benjamin Netanyahu has already demonstrated his capacity for initiative in the past. Last June, he recalls, it was Israel which took the initiative to attack Iran, with the United States then aligning itself, notably during strikes targeting strategic installations like Fordo. This dynamic could, according to Haïk, inspire a new, more autonomous posture vis-à-vis Washington.
The analyst also mentions the Iranian uprising in early January, when hundreds of thousands of opponents took to the streets after American statements suggesting support. “The help did not come,” he emphasizes, evoking deep frustration among the regime’s opponents.
For Daniel Haïk, an “opportunity” could then have been seized to weaken or even bring down the Iranian regime. “Perhaps we missed the boat,” he believes, while leaving open the possibility of a new opportunity resulting from the ongoing discussions in Washington.
He recalls that Iran remains, according to him, the only country to openly demand the destruction of Israel. Neutralizing the Iranian “center”, after the weakening of its proxies in the region, could, in his eyes, transform the security equation in the Middle East.
Finally, Haïk does not exclude the hypothesis of a strategic balance: an agreement on Iran could have direct repercussions on Gaza and Hezbollah. “When the Iranian problem is resolved, the Gaza problem will have diminished in intensity,” he concludes.
