Darius Rucker Concert to Replace South Carolina Spring Football Game
Columbia, SC – South Carolina Gamecocks fans will experience a different kind of spring event this year as the annual spring football game has been replaced with the Garnet &. Black Spring Fest, headlined by a concert featuring Darius Rucker and Lauren Alaina. The change is due to ongoing construction at Williams-Brice Stadium.
Construction Forces Shift in Spring Plans
Ongoing renovations at Williams-Brice Stadium, which began after the 2025 football season, have made hosting the traditional spring game impractical. The stadium is not expected to be operational until the start of the 2026 football season, scheduled to begin on September 5th . Gamecock Athletics, in partnership with Rock Block, announced the alternative event on February 25, 2026 .
Garnet & Black Spring Fest Details
The Garnet & Black Spring Fest will grab place on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at Colonial Life Arena . A free block party will precede the concert, taking place at the corner of Lincoln and Greene Streets outside of Colonial Life Arena, beginning at 1:00 p.m. ET. The block party will feature a meet-and-greet with Gamecock football players, food, drinks, inflatables and live music .
Doors for the concert will open at 6:00 p.m. ET, with the show beginning at 7:00 p.m. ET .
Ticket Information
Tickets will be distributed in phases, prioritizing Gamecock Club members, Letterman Association members, University of South Carolina students, and Colonial Life Arena Cyber Club members. The event is open to all ages .
Rucker’s Connection to South Carolina
Darius Rucker, a Charleston native and University of South Carolina graduate, has a long-standing connection to the university. His band, Hootie & the Blowfish, was formed while he was a student at USC . He frequently supports Gamecock athletics, including attending games and supporting both the football and women’s basketball programs.
Lauren Alaina is a country singer, songwriter, and actress from Rossville, Georgia .
