DART Services Disrupted by Overhead Line Issue at Grand Canal Dock
DART services are experiencing significant disruption until further notice due to a power issue affecting overhead lines at Grand Canal Dock station in Dublin, Ireland. The disruption, which began on Thursday evening, is impacting commuters throughout the greater Dublin area.
Service Suspensions and Delays
From 9:00 PM on Thursday, March 5th, 2026, rail services between Connolly and Dún Laoghaire stations were cancelled. Earlier in the day, services had been suspended between Pearse and Dún Laoghaire while Irish Rail staff began assessing the damage. RTÉ News reports that the cause of the damage remains under investigation.
While DART services continue to operate on the Howth/Malahide to Connolly line and the Dún Laoghaire to Bray/Greystones line, commuters are advised to expect delays. The Rosslare intercity service is also affected.
Alternative Transportation Options
Irish Rail has implemented bus transfers from Connolly Station to Bray to mitigate the disruption. Trains are continuing to operate to Wexford and Rosslare Europort. However, commuters are warned that significant delays are possible due to bus availability and traffic conditions. Irish Rail advises passengers to check for updates before traveling.
Specific adjustments to commuter routes include:
- Northern commuter services will operate to/from Connolly/Pearse to Drogheda.
- Maynooth/Hazelhatch services will operate to/from Connolly/Pearse.
Leap Card and Accessibility
Irish Rail has stated that Leap Cards can be used on all Transport for Ireland (TFI) services in the affected area, subject to capacity. Grand Canal Dock station, located at 44-47 Barrow Street, Dublin 2, is accessible via stairs and lifts. Grand Canal Dock railway station is an elevated station with access from Barrow Street.
Ongoing Repairs and Expected Duration
The disruption is expected to continue for an extended period, including during peak service hours. Irish Rail has apologized for the inconvenience caused to commuters and is working to restore services as quickly as possible. Further updates will be provided as they become available.
