Dawn Michelle Brooks (Dawn Mega) Remembered: A Life of Resilience and Creativity
St. Mary’s First Nation, NB – The community is mourning the loss of Dawn Michelle Brooks, also known as Dawn Mega, who passed away on March 3, 2026, at the Saint John Regional Hospital at the age of 36. A vibrant and resilient spirit, Dawn leaves behind a legacy of love, creativity, and unwavering support for those around her.
Early Life and Family
Born in Fredericton, New Brunswick, on June 1, 1989, Dawn was the eldest daughter of Michael Brooks. She was predeceased by her mother, Ann-Marie Brooks, and her brother, Michael. She is survived by her father, Michael Brooks; sisters Miranda Brooks and Chyenne Brooks (and her husband, Mike); grandmother Vivian Paul; uncle Shawn Paul; aunts Bernadette Henry, Edna Paul, and Laura Underhill (and her husband, Peter); her special niece, Layla; and numerous cousins and friends who she considered family.
A Creative Spirit and Generous Heart
Those who knew Dawn remember her as a fiercely loving and generous individual. She possessed a remarkable capacity for empathy and support, often offering life advice, a listening ear, or simply a partner in fun. A self-taught artist, Dawn found solace and expression in drawing and writing. She embraced life with a vibrant energy, enjoying loud music, poutines, Big Macs, Pepsi, and the color purple.
Facing Challenges with Resilience
Dawn faced numerous challenges throughout her life, including a long-standing struggle with addiction, and complications from pneumonia ultimately led to her passing. Despite these hardships, she remained resilient and determined, often being described as the life of the party and touching the lives of all who had the honor of knowing her.
Legacy of Loyalty and Love
Dawn leaves behind three children, Jakobi, Brooklyn, and Karma. Her selflessness, strength, warm presence, and generous spirit will be deeply missed and fondly remembered. She leaves behind a legacy of loyalty, love, and resilience that lives on in all of us.
Celebration of Life
A special fire was lit on March 6th, and Dawn rested at the Maqiyahtimok Centre, 247 Maliseet Drive, for family from 6-7pm and for the community and public from 7-9pm. A celebration of life was held at the Maqiyahtimok Centre on Saturday, March 7th at 2pm, officiated by Father Curtis Sappier, followed by a feast.
Remembering Dawn
Dawn is now free from the pain she carried and the demons she faced. Her memory will live on in the stories told and the love carried forward, and through her children forever.
