Benjamin Reuter: Pioneering Avalanche Risk Assessment with the DCMR Method

Benjamin Reuter, a leading expert in snow stability and avalanche forecasting, brings a wealth of experience from both sides of the Atlantic to his current role within the Forecast Operations Department of Météo-france. Originally from Germany, Reuter’s research has spanned snow cover stability across Europe and the United States, informing his innovative approach to avalanche risk management.

Reuter is the creator of the DCMR method – a comprehensive framework for identifying and evaluating avalanche dangers. This method emphasizes a systematic process encompassing danger identification, consequence assessment, consideration of mitigation measures, and ultimately, a refined evaluation of overall avalanche risk. His presentation of the DCMR method offers a new perspective on understanding and responding to avalanche hazards.
