Civic Nation is searching for a part-time City Cohort Lead to anchor its Change Collective initiative in Detroit, Michigan. The role, spanning February 2027 through November 2027, tasks a local expert with managing the program’s operations, facilitating curriculum for local leaders, and coordinating the logistics required to combat political polarization and social isolation.
Operational Oversight and Local Liaison
As the primary link between the national Change Collective and the Detroit cohort, the lead will manage the end-to-end participant experience. Responsibilities include vetting applications, spearheading onboarding, and facilitating both in-person and online learning sessions. Beyond the classroom, the lead must manage group conflicts and relay feedback to the national Learning & Program team to sharpen the curriculum.
Building Community Infrastructure
Success in this role requires more than internal management; the lead must cultivate relationships with local stakeholders and secure guest speakers to amplify the network’s impact. This work sits within the broader Civic Nation mission—the same organization behind When We All Vote and the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge—to bolster civic infrastructure and leadership development nationwide.
The Detroit Requirement
Civic Nation mandates that the successful candidate reside in the Detroit area to ensure a grounded understanding of the city’s social, political, and economic climate. Applicants must prove their expertise in training, learning development, and facilitation. The position demands high-level independence, requiring the lead to work effectively with diverse groups while maintaining professional ties to external partners.
Compensation and Commitment
The role is structured as a part-time commitment of five hours per week, totaling 20 hours per month. Compensation is set at $115.00 per hour. The schedule includes a mandatory in-person facilitation session one Saturday per month, alongside travel requirements for two national convenings: one at the start and one at the end of the term.
Long-Term Goals for the Change Collective
Launched in 2023, the Change Collective aims to reinvent civic life by building a national network of local changemakers. While this specific contract ends in November 2027, the role carries the potential for extension into 2028 and beyond. By prioritizing leadership development, the initiative seeks to build a sustainable model for community collaboration, specifically designed to counter civic disengagement and polarization at the local level.
