Declan Nevin, Beloved Publican and Community Figure, Passes Away

Declan Nevin, a well-known figure in Newport, County Mayo, Ireland, has passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on March 18, 2026. He was the owner of Nevin’s Bar on Main Street and a deeply respected member of the local community.

A Life Remembered

Declan is survived by his wife, Jo-Ann (née McHale), and their children, Angela (Ronan), Paul, Michaela (Finn), and Seán (Sophie). He was a devoted grandfather to Conn, MacDara, and Aodán. He is likewise mourned by his sisters Geraldine (Bertie), Finola (Tom), and Fidelma (Michael); his brothers Michael (Geraldine), Colm (Paula), Kevin (Denise), Rory (Carmel), and Adrian (Elaine); as well as numerous aunts, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

He was predeceased by his parents, Teresa and Michael Nevin; his sister, Angela Irwin; his sister-in-law, Loyola McHale; his parents-in-law, Tom and Patricia McHale; and his son, James.

Nevin’s Bar: A Community Hub

Nevin’s Bar, located on Main Street in Newport, was more than just a pub; it was a central gathering place for the community. Mayo News reported that the pub was known for its kind-hearted and humorous conversations.

Funeral Arrangements

Declan will repose at St. Dominick’s Funeral Home, Newport (F28 H682) on Friday, March 20, 2026, from 5pm to 8pm. His remains will be removed on Saturday morning, March 21, 2026, to St. Patrick’s Church, Newport, for Funeral Mass at 11am, followed by burial in Burrishoole Cemetery.

The family has requested that the house be kept private. Family flowers only are requested, with donations, if desired, going to Daisy Lodge, Cong, Co. Mayo and Irish Cancer Night Nurses.

The Nevin family has expressed their gratitude for the kindness and consideration shown to them during this difficult time. Funeral arrangements were announced by Midwest Radio.
