Today, attention was paid to two fatal traffic accidents in Eefde in Gelderland and Kessel in Limburg. Last night three underage boys were killed.
The victims from Eefde crashed on the provincial road N348 near Gorssel. A third minor passenger was injured, but his injuries are not life-threatening. The car may have hit a curb in the central reservation, after which the driver lost control.
In Kessel it was also a one-sided accident. A car crashed into a building of the Limburg Water Board, killing a 17-year-old boy. Another 18-year-old passenger was injured.
Football matches cancelled
Sports club Eefde has canceled all matches today. The victims were according to Omroep Gelderland active at the club. The canteen was open to seek support from each other.
Acting mayor Backhuijs of the municipality of Lochem, which includes Eefde, says that the death of the boys has a major impact. Guidance is available for surviving relatives. Nothing is yet clear about the circumstances. According to Backhuijs, there was also a fatal accident on the same road a few months ago.
In Kessel according to L1News dozens of local residents gathered at the scene of the accident. One of them says he woke up last night to a huge bang that felt “like an earthquake”. “I immediately knew that something was wrong. An intense and sad event.”
The car crashed into a sewage pumping station last night. According to the water board, serious damage was caused. For safety reasons, the power has therefore been disconnected and the installation is being dismantled.
The police are investigating the area to find out the cause of the accident.
