Delaware County to Host Additional Sessions for Opioid Settlement Strategic Plan

Delaware County is offering additional virtual mini-strategic planning sessions to gather community input on how to best utilize funds from the opioid settlement. These sessions are specifically designed for individuals and organizations who were unable to attend the initial meetings held February 24-26, 2026.

Background on the Opioid Settlement

In September 2022, Delaware County Council announced a $62.5 million opioid settlement with pharmaceutical distributors, resulting from legal actions taken by the County, the State, and the District Attorney . The funds originate from a $26 billion global settlement involving Cardinal, McKesson, and AmerisourceBergen . Delaware County will receive annual payments over 18 years, averaging $3.5 million per year, to address the opioid epidemic .

How the Funds Will Be Used

Settlement funds are restricted to opioid-related remediation efforts, including :

• Naloxone training and distribution for first responders, schools, community support groups, and families
• Medication-assisted treatment
• Expansion of warm hand-off programs and recovery services
• Prevention programs
• Treatment for incarcerated populations

The county is expected to receive $7.1 million this month, including $4.1 million from Wave 1 settlements and $2.9 million from Wave 2 settlements .

Strategic Planning Sessions

The upcoming sessions will focus on gathering input on the Vision, Mission, and Guiding Principles for the County’s opioid settlement strategic plan. Each session will last 90 minutes and cover the same core topics as the February meetings in a condensed, discussion-focused format.

How to Participate

Registration is required to participate in the virtual sessions, which will be held via Zoom. A calendar invitation with the Zoom meeting link will be sent to participants after registration.

Delaware County has formed an interdepartmental Task Force to recommend both short-term and long-term uses for the funding and has engaged the public through town halls, discussions, surveys, and other activities to ensure transparency and appropriate spending .
