Desjardins Credit Card Balance Display Change Sparks Member Outcry

A recent change to how Desjardins displays credit card balances in its AccèsD app and online services has triggered significant frustration among members, with many voicing their concerns on social media platforms. The update, which now shows balances excluding pending transactions, has led to a petition and widespread complaints about difficulty in budgeting.

The Change and the Backlash

Previously, Desjardins’ AccèsD platform displayed credit card balances that immediately reflected payments made. Now, the balance doesn’t update instantly after a payment, leading to confusion for users accustomed to seeing a zero balance immediately after payment. Audrey-Anne Simard initiated a petition on Sunday, which has garnered nearly 6,000 signatures as of March 23, 2026, expressing dissatisfaction with the change. Many members report contacting Desjardins to voice their complaints.

“When I pay my credit card, I desire to observe the balance at 0 straight away, I don’t want to wait 24 hours, it’s not 1900,” Simard explained in a viral TikTok video. Content creator Michael Fortin echoed this sentiment, questioning why changes were made to a system that was already functioning effectively.

Why the Change?

Desjardins spokesperson Jean-Benoît Turcotti explained that the change is due to a necessary migration to a new credit card processing system. According to Turcotti, the new system utilizes industry-standard components that cannot be altered to revert to the previous display method. “We need to move credit card processing to a new system… We therefore cannot return to the old display,” Turcotti stated in an email to QMI Agency.

Desjardins argues that the updated balance display more accurately reflects the actual outstanding amount by excluding temporary authorizations – such as those for hotel reservations, car rentals, or gas purchases – that haven’t yet been officially processed. The available credit function, however, is updated in real-time.

What This Means for Desjardins Members

While the available credit is updated immediately, the delay in reflecting payments on the balance display is causing budgeting challenges for some members. The change has prompted calls for Desjardins to prioritize member feedback, given its cooperative structure.
