Patients with mental illnesses not only have an increased risk of diabetes. BIf they have a manifest illness, they do not receive adequate medical care, as a recently published international study shows.

Diabetes is present in patients mental illnesses up to three times more common than in the general population. Those affected generally show more cardiovascular risk factors due to poor diet, little exercise and smoking. As a result, they also have increased cardiovascular mortality.
