Nîmes Hospital Launches Diabetes Screening Events for November

Nearly 4 million people live with diabetes in France, prompting the CHU de Nîmes and its partners to roll out a month-long public awareness campaign throughout November 2026. The initiative targets a disease that often remains silent until complications develop, making early detection a primary focus as global projections point toward 853 million diabetes cases worldwide by 2050.

Healthcare professionals from the hospital will host information stands across multiple facilities to educate the public on risk factors, prevention, and care pathways. The outreach effort opens on Thursday, November 12, 2026, from 10 h to 16 h in the main hall at Carémeau, offering direct exchanges with medical staff.

Screening Schedule Across Regional Facilities

The November campaign continues with specialized sessions at different partner locations in the region. On Friday, November 13, 2026, from 11 h to 16 h, a dedicated information stand will operate at the Hôpital universitaire de Rééducation, Réadaptation et d’Addictologie du Grau-du-Roi.

A subsequent session takes place on Monday, November 23, 2026, from 12 h 30 to 15 h 30 at the Centre de Gérontologie Serre Cavalier, focusing on the diabetes and its prevention. Dr. Ingrid Julier, Cheffe du service Maladies Métaboliques Endocriniennes du CHU de Nîmes, emphasized the clinical stakes of early intervention.

Agir tôt, c’est avant tout ne pas attendre l’apparition des complications pour intervenir, Dr. Julier stated, noting that screening allows teams to identify the condition swiftly, adapt patient care, and manage long-term outcomes.

Assessment Tools and Diagnostic Pathways

Residents can evaluate their personal risk profile beforehand using the FINDRISC score questionnaire available online through the Assurance Maladie platform. When an online assessment flags potential risks, a general practitioner can prescribe a standard blood test at a medical laboratory to confirm a diagnosis.

The campaign concludes on Saturday, November 28, 2026, from 9 h to 14 h with the Forum des diabétiques at the Archives départementales du Gard, located at 365 rue Forez in Nîmes. Hosted by the Association Française des Diabétiques du Gard, the free public event brings together patients, families, and health specialists for discussions and workshops.
