Understanding the Connection

The webinar will delve into the current understanding of the disease mechanisms underlying diabetic peripheral neuropathy, with a particular emphasis on abnormalities in insulin signaling and metabolic dysfunction. This exploration aims to provide insights into metabolic neuropathy and its implications for both prevention and effective management strategies.

Expert Speakers

The session will be chaired by Dr. Maryam Ferdousi, Research Fellow at the University of Manchester, and Dr. Shazli Azmi, Consultant Diabetologist at the Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust. Presentations will be delivered by Professor Handrean Soran, Consultant Physician and Endocrinologist at the Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust, and Professor Brian Callaghan, Professor of Neurology and a Neuromuscular Specialist at the University of Michigan.

Diabetic neuropathy is a common complication of diabetes, often underdiagnosed, and affects millions globally. Research presented at the NEURODIAB conference in 2025, such as the work by Maryam Ferdousi, highlighted the co-existence of different types of diabetic neuropathy in large diabetes populations.
