Diablo II: Resurrected PTR 3.2: Warlock Balance and Season 14 Updates

Blizzard has announced the arrival of the Diablo II: Resurrected PTR 3.2, focusing heavily on balance adjustments for the Warlock class and updates to Terror Zones. This Public Test Realm (PTR) serves as the testing ground for the upcoming Season 14, allowing players to evaluate significant mechanical shifts before they hit the live servers.

PTR 3.2 Schedule and Testing Access

The Season 14 PTR is scheduled to travel live on April 14 at 11:00 a.m. PDT and will conclude on April 21 at 11:00 a.m. To streamline the feedback process, Blizzard is providing specific character templates tailored for testing the recent changes:

  • Miasma Test: Level 15
  • Flame Test: Level 18
  • Bind Demon Test: Level 30
  • Echoing Testing: Level 80

Each template includes predefined talents related to the specific changes being tested, all Waypoints unlocked and a shared stash equipped with necessary items.

Warlock Class Balance Adjustments

The 3.2 update introduces a comprehensive overhaul of the Warlock’s capabilities, focusing on resource efficiency, equipment restrictions, and demon management.

General Improvements and Equipment

Warlocks will see an increase in survivability with health potion effectiveness rising from 100 to 150. Equipment rules have been tightened: Warlocks can now only equip a two-handed weapon in one hand if the other hand is holding a grimoire class item; shields are no longer permitted in this configuration.

General Improvements and Equipment

Demon Mastery and Combat Skills

Several skills related to demon summoning and combat have been recalibrated to ensure balanced scaling:

  • Demonic Mastery: Increasing the max demon count now requires a base skill point investment.
  • Summon Goatmen: Attack speed bonuses granted by this skill are now capped at 50%.
  • Blood Oath: The damage transfer statistic is now capped at 50%.
  • Blood Boil: Range is now determined by level thresholds:
    • Levels 1-4: 2 yards
    • Levels 5-9: 3 yards
    • Levels 10+: 4 yards

Bind Demon and Consume Mechanics

The mechanics for binding and consuming demons have been significantly altered to reward higher-difficulty play and strategic skill investment.

Bind Demon now requires specific base skill point investments to bind different tiers of demons: 10 points for champions, 15 for uniques, and 20 for super uniques. The synergy for the chance to bind from Death Mark has been reduced from 1% to 0.5%. While missing health still increases the bind chance, the benefit has been reduced and now varies by demon type, and a max health cap has been introduced that varies per demon.

The Consume skill now provides different bonus values based on the game difficulty of the demon when it was originally bound. For example, binding a demon on Hell difficulty and then consuming it will grant the Hell difficulty bonus.

Cursed Affix and Aura Changes

Blizzard is shifting the utility of the Cursed Affix to prevent over-performance and diversify the aura pool.

  • Amplify Damage: The chance to cast this skill via Cursed Affix has been reduced from 75% to 5%.
  • Mana Cost: The cost has been reduced to 9 per second.
  • Aura Pool Overhaul: Conviction, Holy Fire, Holy Lightning, Blessed Aim, and Might Auras have been removed from the possible pool. They are replaced by Fanaticism, Vigor, Thorns, and Concentration.

Looking Ahead
