Dianne Messenger Exhibition at Wellfleet Adult Community Center

The Wellfleet Adult Community Center is hosting an exhibition of paintings on paper by Dianne Messenger throughout May 2026, with an artist reception scheduled for Sunday, May 3, from 3:00 to 5:00 PM. The exhibit is curated by Robert Rindler and features Messenger’s exploration of the human figure through a process of continual revision and emotional investigation.

About the Exhibition

Dianne Messenger’s work begins with representational figures that evolve as she paints, often altering limbs, adding hands, or obscuring faces. Her artistic process emphasizes surprises, learning, emotional revelation, and investigation, with a strong focus on formal elements such as shape, color, and line. Messenger describes her approach as constantly questioning how to make each piece work, using the figure to explore human relationships and emotional scope.

The exhibition is hosted at the Wellfleet Adult Community Center, located at 715 Old Kings Highway in Wellfleet, Massachusetts. The center serves as a hub for community activities and is affiliated with the Wellfleet Council on Aging.

Artist Background

Messenger has maintained a deep connection to the Outer Cape since childhood, vacationing in Truro at her grandmother’s house. She relocated to the area in 2005 from Philadelphia and became active in the local art community, exhibiting at venues including the Provincetown Art Museum, the Commons, and What Theater. Her formal art education includes studies at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, the Philadelphia College of Art, and a bachelor’s degree from the Tyler School of Art.

Although she initially resisted creating art for sale, a request from her aunt to paint flowers for a café led her to reconsider. When those early commercial attempts did not sell, Messenger turned to large sheets of paper and began developing the mature figurative work now on display.
