Norwegian Truckers Plan Slow-Down Protest Over Soaring Diesel Prices

Norwegian truck drivers are planning a slow-moving protest on the E39 highway in Agder county on Friday, March 25, 2026, to demonstrate against rapidly increasing diesel prices. The action is organized by the Facebook group “Diesel Brølet” (Diesel Roar).

Rising Fuel Costs Fueling Discontent

Diesel prices in Norway have increased by 26.2 percent between March 2 and March 10, according to the Norwegian Truck Owners’ Association (VG). Jan Erik Rafoss, the managing director of Jan-Erik Rafoss Transport AS and a key organizer of the protest, stated the rising costs are unsustainable for the transport industry. “It is a cry for help at the price gallop that the transport industry is unable to keep up with,” he said (VG).

Protest Details and Demands

The protest will begin at 1:00 PM in Kvinesdal and proceed along the E39 highway towards Mandal at a speed of 40 kilometers per hour. Approximately 50 participants have registered for the event (Nationen).

Protesters are calling on the government to reduce taxes on diesel fuel, specifically the road apply tax, CO2 tax, and value-added tax (VAT) (VG).

Government Response and Potential Impact

Finance Minister Jens Stoltenberg (Labour Party) has indicated that the government will consider measures to address fuel prices in the revised budget (VG). Yet, the Conservative and Progress Parties are urging immediate action to lower prices.

Grocery expert Odd Gisholt suggests that although consumers may not immediately feel the impact of higher diesel prices, they could eventually lead to increased prices in stores if the trend continues (VG).
