Discounted Airfares for Residents – March 29th Deals

A new phase regarding air territorial continuity in Sardinia will begin from next March 29th. As stated by the President of the Region, Alessandra Todde, tickets for the assigned routes are already on sale and, from that date, residents and workers will be able to travel at reduced fares on the main routes to and from Rome Fiumicino and Milan Linate from the airports of Cagliari, Olbia and Alghero.

In this regard, the governor speaks of “a new right to move”, and of a system that aims to make mobility to and from Sardinia more accessible.

The new resident rates

The president states that from 29 March 2026, with Aeroitalia, return fares for residents will be significantly lower than the previous ones. For example:

• Cagliari–Rome Fiumicino: approximately 118 euros return (against the previous 145 euros);

• Cagliari–Milan Linate: approximately 136 euros return (before approximately 157 euros);

• Olbia–Rome Fiumicino: approximately 119 euros return (before approximately 147 euros);

• Olbia–Milan Linate: approximately 142 euros return (before approximately 159 euros);

• Alghero–Rome Fiumicino: approximately 119 euros return (before approximately 145 euros).

The Alghero-Milan route, however, remains guaranteed by ITA Airways until October 2026, while the Region will proceed with the publication of a new dedicated tender.

The impact on families

According to what was communicated by the president, “a family of four people (two adults, a thirteen-year-old and a child) who today spends around 537 euros for a return trip Cagliari–Rome Fiumicino will be able to save between 100 and 140 euros on a single trip”.

The conditions relating to baggage included, possibility of change and flexibility of the travel ticket remain unchanged.

More frequencies and peak management

The new model, as stated by the president, “also provides for an increase in frequencies and a better distribution of timetables”. The additional flights will in fact be activated with a lower filling threshold: from 91% to 80% of capacity, with the aim of better managing peaks in demand.

Who accesses the discounted rates

Residents can access the rates:

• Citizens residing in Sardinia;

• Persons with disabilities with disability equal to or greater than 80%;

• Passengers between 2 and 21 years old;

• University students up to 27 years old;

• Over 70.

The new model adds:

• Military personnel on duty in Sardinia;

• Non-professional competitive athletes belonging to Sardinian sports clubs;

• Workers with stable and continuous headquarters on the island.

The governor states that “the benefits are also extended, through self-certification, to residents outside Sardinia with relatives up to the third degree on the island, to occasional workers and assistants of family members who are beneficiaries of law 104 and to guardians of Sardinian residents. For these categories the ticket will be equal to the resident rate with a small surcharge, but no longer at the full free market rate”.

The discounted rate is also extended to minors up to 14 years of age, exceeding the previous limit of 12. The discounted rates are valid all year round.

International coincidences and regulatory framework

The Region also highlights an improvement in international connections: thanks to agreements with Air France, KLM, Delta Air Lines, Etihad Airways and Qatar Airways, it will be possible to purchase a single ticket for continuations from Rome and Milan, reducing inconvenience and missed connections.

The new continuity, highlights President Todde, represents «a result obtained in compliance with European regulations and in one of the most complex moments for the international aviation market, marked by the shortage of aircraft and the saturation of airport slots».

“Having achieved this objective – he concludes – we will focus our work on improving the ancillary tools of air mobility on which the Region can intervene, from refunds to passengers to new routes”.
