Disneyland Honors Beloved “Porch Potato” Frank Rodriguez with Memorial Plaque

Disneyland has honored Frank Rodriguez, a longtime annual passholder affectionately known as the “Porch Potato” and “Mayor of Main Street U.S.A.,” with a memorial plaque on a bench along Main Street U.S.A. The tribute, a rare honor typically reserved for Disney Legends, recognizes Rodriguez’s decades-long tradition of greeting guests and spreading positivity at the park.

A Main Street U.S.A. Staple

For over two decades, Rodriguez spent countless hours on the porch of Fargo’s Palm Parlor on Main Street U.S.A., becoming a familiar and cherished face to both cast members and visitors. He was known for wearing Dodgers gear and occasionally a “Mayor of Main Street” sash, offering waves and friendly conversation to those passing by. The plaque, placed by the New Century Historical Society, bears his personal motto: “Every day is my best day.”

Who Was Frank Rodriguez?

Frank Rodriguez, a native of Pico Rivera, California, passed away in August 2025 at the age of 79. According to his daughters, Andrea Rodriguez Jered and Amanda Rodriguez, he was a humble man who found immense joy in connecting with people. A polio survivor, Rodriguez worked as a tow truck and considerable rig operator for over 30 years.

A Unique Tribute

The decision to honor Rodriguez with a plaque is unusual, as such tributes are typically reserved for those instrumental in the park’s creation or significant historical figures. The Orange County Register reported that Disneyland Resort spokesperson Jessica Jakary explained the plaque is “part of our focus to connect guests with the history and heritage of Disneyland during the 70th anniversary celebration.”

Recognition from Disney Leadership

Even Disney CEO Josh D’Amaro acknowledged Rodriguez’s impact, sharing on Instagram that he felt “lucky to have spent time on the porch with him” during the park’s 70th anniversary.

A Legacy of Kindness

Rodriguez’s family expressed their gratitude for the tribute, noting that it perfectly encapsulates his spirit of kindness and positivity. They shared that he simply enjoyed making people happy and creating a welcoming atmosphere at Disneyland. The plaque serves as a lasting reminder of his dedication to spreading joy and embodies the magic of Disneyland.
