Josh Doan Signs Lucrative Seven-Year Extension with Buffalo Sabres

Buffalo, NY – The Buffalo Sabres have secured the future of a key offensive player, signing forward Josh Doan to a seven-year, $48.65 million contract extension. The deal, announced Wednesday, carries an average annual value (AAV) of $6.95 million and will commence with the 2025-2026 NHL season.

Doan, 23, has quickly become an integral part of the Sabres’ lineup since arriving in a trade with the Utah Mammoth on June 26th, alongside defenseman Michael Kesselring, in exchange for forward JJ Peterka. in his first season with Buffalo, Doan has established career highs across the board, registering 15 goals, 20 assists, and 35 points in just 49 games. He was previously drafted by the Arizona Coyotes in the second round (37th overall) of the 2021 NHL Draft and has accumulated 63 points (27 goals, 36 assists) across 111 NHL games with the Coyotes, Mammoth, and Sabres.

The contract extension prevents Doan from becoming a restricted free agent at the end of the current season, signaling the Sabres’ commitment to building around the young forward.

“Josh is a player that impacts the team both on and off the ice,” stated Sabres General Manager Jarmo Kekalainen.”He works hard, is competitive and skilled, and his game is going to continue to develop. We believe he will be a core piece of this team moving forward and I am excited to have him as a Buffalo Sabre long term.”

Currently holding a record of 27-17-5, the Sabres sit fourth in the competitive Atlantic Division and currently occupy the first wild card spot for the Stanley Cup Playoffs in the Eastern Conference. The team is striving to end an 14-year playoff drought, having last qualified for postseason play in 2011. Doan’s continued advancement and long-term commitment are expected to be crucial to the Sabres’ playoff aspirations and future success.
