Williams Unveils Doctor Doom Livery for Marvel Collaboration
Williams debuted a Doctor Doom-inspired show car and livery earlier this month at New York Comic Con, replacing their usual blue Formula 1 design with the villain’s signature black and green colors. The special-edition vehicle anchors an ongoing collaboration with Marvel that spans comic book releases, race suit displays, and special-edition covers throughout the 2026 season.
Neither Alex Albon nor Carlos Sainz will compete using the Doctor Doom paint scheme during an official Grand Prix weekend.
Comic Book Origins and Paddock Activations
The crossover initiative began in April when Williams announced that Albon, Sainz, and Team Principal James Vowles would appear in a special one-shot comic book titled Iron Man: Racing Towards Doom. Written by Ethan Sacks with artwork by Greg Land, the 32-page publication features the Williams personnel working alongside Iron Man, Black Widow, and Captain America to thwart Doctor Doom during a racing season. The publication is scheduled for a wider United States release on October 21.
Dr Miriam Kent, a lecturer in film and media at the University of Leeds and author of Women in Marvel Films, noted that entertainment tie-ins with sports teams follow a long-established history. We can look back to the history of superhero publishers working with sports teams or featuring famous athletes – going back to the ’50s, ’60s and ’70s, even,
Dr Kent explained.
Beyond the printed page, the partnership has rolled out limited-edition comic book covers at multiple rounds of the 2026 season. Activations began at the Miami Grand Prix and subsequently appeared at races in Monaco, Great Britain, Spain, and Singapore. Williams ID members also gained access to exclusive digital badges and assets commemorating the collaboration.
