She frequently shared that “If We Never Meet Again”—a 1945 country-gospel composition by Albert E. Brumley that has been famously covered by artists like Elvis Presley and Johnny Cash—was her father’s favorite hymn. The song was previously performed at her father’s funeral, prompting Parton to declare years prior that she wanted the same piece sung at her own service. The lyrics focus on separation and the spiritual hope of reuniting on a peaceful shore.
According to reporting from Page Six and TMZ, Parton will be laid to rest in a small, private ceremony among close family members at the Woodlawn Memorial Park and Mausoleum in Nashville. She will be buried beside her husband, Carl Dean, who died in 2025. Her nephew and head of personal security, Bryan Seaver, shared via social media that the country legend requested to be laid to rest in a comfortable bed of soft cotton while wearing her signature high heels.
While industry watchers widely anticipated that her monumental 1973 ballad “I Will Always Love You”—which reached global superstardom when Whitney Houston recorded it in 1992 for The Bodyguard—would anchor the memorial, Parton herself expected that choice. Referencing Houston’s 2012 funeral where the song played as pallbearers lifted the casket, Parton told Entertainment Weekly in 2014, “I’m sure they’ll play ‘I Will Always Love You’ when I die, just like they did for Whitney Houston.”
