Dom Dolla Revives Puretone’s “Addicted to Bass” with New Remix
Australian EDM star Dom Dolla has released a remix of Puretone’s 1998 hit “Addicted to Bass,” titled “Addicted to Bass (Dom Dolla Relapse).” This marks his first official release in approximately eight months.
A Childhood Soundtrack
Dom Dolla, whose real name is Dominic Matheson, shared that the original track was deeply ingrained in his childhood. “This record was quite literally the soundtrack to my childhood,” he stated. He noted that despite spending time overseas, he was surprised by how unfamiliar many of his friends were with the song. The remix came about while preparing for his first stadium show in 2025, where he revisited aged playlists and found himself drawn back to “Addicted to Bass.”
“almost 30 years have gone by and I truly hope this new version finds an audience who connect with it in a fraction of the way that I did as a kid. The addiction is real,” Dolla added.
From Australia to the UK Charts
Originally released by Josh Abrahams and Amiel Daemion as Puretone, “Addicted to Bass” gained significant traction internationally. In 2002, it reached No. 2 on the Official U.K. Singles Chart, narrowly beaten by Aaliyah’s “More Than A Woman.” A retail leak caused the song to initially debut at No. 68 the previous week, but it quickly climbed the charts to become a floor-filler.
Collaboration and Approval
Dom Dolla secured approval from both Daemion and Abrahams for the remix. Abrahams praised the new version, stating that it “finds the deeper, steamier layers in the song. While staying true to the original, particularly in the chorus, Dom has brought his own dirty funk groove to the party. I f****** love it!”
A Landmark Year for Dom Dolla
The remix premiered in December during Dom Dolla’s historic performance at Sydney’s Allianz Stadium. This followed a successful year that included a Grammy Award nomination, multiple ARIA Awards – including the inaugural ARIA Global Impact Award – sold-out shows at Madison Square Garden, and the release of “No Room For A Saint,” the soundtrack for F1: The Movie.
What’s Next for Dom Dolla
Dom Dolla’s 2026 schedule is packed with major festival appearances, headline shows across Asia, Latin and North America, the United Kingdom and Europe, a 13-week residency at Hï Ibiza, and a continued residency at LIV Las Vegas.
“Addicted to Bass (Dom Dolla Relapse)” is available to stream via TMRW Music and YouTube.
