Italian biathlete Rebecca Passlerová Tests Positive for Banned Substance Ahead of Milan-Cortina Olympics

MILAN – Just days before the highly anticipated opening ceremony, the Winter Olympic Games in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo are facing their first doping controversy. Italian biathlete Rebecca Passlerová has tested positive for a prohibited substance, officials announced today.

The Italian national anti-doping agency confirmed Passlerová’s suspension following the positive test result. The substance identified was letrozole, a medication commonly used in the hormonal treatment of breast cancer.

Letrozole is banned in sports due to its potential to mask the effects of anabolic steroids. The positive test occured during an out-of-competition control, highlighting the rigorous testing procedures in place for the Olympic Games.

Passlerová, 24, has achieved notable success in her career, earning five medals at the Junior World Championships. She began competing in the Biathlon World Cup in 2021, with her best individual results being two eleventh-place finishes. She also contributed to two third-place relay finishes during the 2022/23 season.

most recently,Passlerová participated in a pre-Olympic general practice event in Nové Mesto na Morava in January, finishing 42nd in the shortened endurance race.

this development casts a shadow over the Italian team as they prepare to compete on home soil. Further investigation and proceedings will determine the extent of the consequences for Passlerová and her eligibility for future competitions.
