Donald Trump’s Ankle Swelling Draws Scrutiny During College Football Show Appearance

Donald Trump’s recent appearance on Josh Pate’s College Football Show sparked concern among viewers who noticed apparent swelling in his ankles. Images from the February 22nd interview circulated on social media, prompting discussion about the former president’s health.

Concerns Raised on Social Media

A photograph shared by Pate on X (formerly Twitter) showed Trump seated with his trousers riding up, exposing his ankles. Social media users quickly commented on the appearance of swelling, particularly in his right ankle. Posts expressed worry and questioned Trump’s physical condition, with some referencing videos showing him moving slowly and using railings for support.

Medical Explanation Provided

The White House and medical assessments have attributed the swelling to chronic venous insufficiency (CVI), a common and generally non-life-threatening circulatory condition associated with age. CVI occurs when leg veins struggle to effectively return blood to the heart, leading to blood pooling in the lower limbs.

Following the observation of swelling, Trump underwent a “comprehensive examination” by the White House Medical Unit “out of an abundance of caution,” according to his physician, Dr. Sean Barbabella. Dr. Barbabella stated that the examination revealed CVI and found no evidence of deep vein thrombosis or arterial disease. He affirmed that Trump “remains in excellent health,” with normal cardiac structure and function, and no signs of heart failure, renal impairment, or systemic illness.

Interview Focused on Topics Beyond Football

Despite promises of a politics-free conversation focused solely on college football, the interview with Josh Pate reportedly drifted into other areas. According to Sporting News, Trump initially responded to a question about the state of college football by discussing changes to NFL kickoff rules. He also discussed his relationships with coaches Nick Saban and Urban Meyer, and his hiring philosophies. Awful Announcing noted that Trump often seemed to miss the focus of Pate’s questions.
