Alexander County Opens Emergency Shelter Ahead of Winter Storm
Taylorsville, NC – January 24, 2026 – Alexander County officials have announced the opening of an emergency shelter to provide a safe and warm location for residents during the anticipated winter storm. The shelter will open at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday, January 25th, in the JV gymnasium at Alexander Central High School, located at 223 School Drive, Taylorsville.
In response to the proclamation, numerous individuals and organizations have offered to donate supplies. Alexander County is gratefully accepting donations of non-perishable,pre-packaged food items and essential supplies. Donations can be dropped off at the Alexander County Detention Center.upon arrival, donors should utilize the lobby phone to request assistance.
County officials particularly encourage donations to be made before the storm arrives on Saturday to allow for efficient association and distribution of resources. The shelter aims to provide a secure environment for residents seeking refuge from the inclement weather.
