A subsequent update quickly followed the initial rollout, extending compatibility to the first three beta iterations of iOS 26.1.
Device Compatibility and Chipset Limits
The iOS 26 jailbreak functions exclusively on specific hardware configurations capable of running the operating system. Compatible devices are limited to the iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, iPhone 11 Pro Max, and the second-generation iPhone SE, all of which utilize the A13 chip. Older models such as the iPhone XS, XS Max, and XR feature the A12 chip but do not support iOS 26. However, the A12 and A13 processors also appear in various iPad models compatible with iPadOS 26, including the ninth-generation iPad.
Beyond the newest software versions, Dopamine maintains broader compatibility across legacy software. The tool supports various versions ranging from iOS 15.0 to 18.7.1 depending on the specific hardware, spanning devices equipped with A14 through A17 chips, alongside M1 and M2 iPads. Rootless Architecture and Security Implications
Dopamine operates as a rootless jailbreak, meaning it avoids modifying the core system partition directly and instead places its files in alternate directories. This architectural design simplifies the removal process if a user decides to sell the device. Furthermore, the software functions as a semi-untethered jailbreak. Devices reboot normally after a power cycle, but users must relaunch Dopamine to re-enable the jailbreak environment.
While the utility of jailbreaking has declined over the years as Apple has introduced native customization options like custom icons and keyboards, niche uses persist. Enthusiasts occasionally utilize these exploits for advanced operations, such as running macOS on supported iPhones and iPads. Despite these capabilities, the underlying exploits rely on security vulnerabilities discovered within Apple’s software. It is not recommended to use it on a primary device.
