Dominican Republic Targets Foreign Investment at Boston MedTech Conference

The Dominican Republic is positioning its medical device manufacturing sector as a destination for foreign investment at The MedTech Conference 2026, running from October 18 to 21 in Boston, United States. A national delegation led by the National Council of Export Free Zones (CNZFE) is spearheading the effort to attract global manufacturing leaders, elnacional.com.do reported.

The export zones currently host 42 medical device manufacturers, including seven of the world’s ten largest firms. These operations generated 34,075 direct jobs and maintained the highest average salaries across the entire free zone regime. Medical and pharmaceutical exports from these zones reached $2.89 billion in 2025, marking a 93.1% increase compared to 2016 and establishing the sector as the leading exporter of the sector.

Growth in United States Export Markets

Data from the United States International Trade Commission shows that Dominican exports of medical devices to the U.S. market grew by more than 102% between 2013 and 2023. By 2025, the country secured the seventh position among regional suppliers of medical instruments and apparatus to the United States.

Lucía Zorrilla, Vice Minister of Free Zones and Special Regimes, stated that the delegation’s participation aims to capture fresh foreign capital and position the nation for companies currently evaluating new operational sites. The conference itself is organized by AdvaMed, the U.S. medical technology industry association.

Dominican Delegation Seeks Investments at Boston Event

The event in Boston gathers more than 4,000 participants from over 40 countries, including industry executives, manufacturers, and representatives of the medical device industry. The Dominican delegation is utilizing the venue to turn professional contacts into commercial agreements that secure new investments and skilled employment opportunities.

As part of the official schedule, CNZFE Executive Director Johannes Kelner will deliver a conference titled Why Global MedTech Leaders Are Choosing the Dominican Republic and take part in a panel addressing government perspectives. Meanwhile, Marcos Balaguer, Director General of the Directorate General of Medicines, Food, and Sanitary Products (Digemaps), is scheduled to discuss regulatory access across Latin America.
