Suriname’s roads recorded their second fatal traffic accident in less than 24 hours after a driver died in a solo crash on the Kennedyweg. The incident occurred during the night near Plantage Overtoom, according to local police reports.
Nighttime Rollover on Kennedyweg Claims Driver’s Life
Authorities stated that the victim was driving a black Audi southbound on the Kennedyweg when he lost control of the vehicle near Plantage Overtoom. The car veered off the road and flipped over, sustaining heavy structural damage.
Bystanders and First Responders Rush to Wreckage
Bystanders pulled the driver from the wreckage, but he was unresponsive. First responders from an dispatched ambulance confirmed that the driver showed no signs of life upon arrival. A licensed physician formally pronounced the victim dead at the scene.
Active Police Investigation and Pending Autopsy
Investigators have not yet determined whether the driver possessed a valid Surinamese driver’s license or if he was operating the vehicle under the influence of alcohol. Police officers from the Rijsdijk station have launched an active investigation into the crash.
Following consultation with the Public Prosecutor’s Office in Suriname, authorities seized the body for an official autopsy.
Earlier Weekend Crash on Nieuw Weergevondenweg
This fatal rollover follows another deadly single-vehicle accident that occurred early Saturday morning on the Nieuw Weergevondenweg, near the Agenoriaweg intersection. In that incident, a female driver crashed her vehicle directly into a utility pole owned by the country’s electric utility, N.V. Energiebedrijven Suriname (EBS). Two passengers riding in the car sustained injuries during the collision and required emergency transport by ambulance to the Emergency Department.
