DSWD Strengthens Social Services for Vulnerable Filipinos
The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) is reinforcing its commitment to expanding and improving social protection programs aimed at supporting the Philippines’ most vulnerable populations. This initiative underscores the department’s dedication to poverty alleviation and the enhancement of social well-being across the nation.
Flagship Programs and Initiatives
DSWD Undersecretary Fatima Aliah Dimaporo recently highlighted the department’s key programs during the Usapang Budget Natin Forum in Koronadal City. These programs form the core of the DSWD’s social protection strategy and include:
- Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps): Investments continue in the health and education of impoverished families through 4Ps, providing educational grants of P300 for elementary students, P500 for junior high school students, P700 for senior high school students, and P750 for health and development sessions. A new grant provides P350 pesos for pregnant and lactating women, alongside a monthly rice allowance of P600.
- Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP): This program works in conjunction with 4Ps to help families achieve economic stability.
- Philippine Community Resilience Project (PCRP): An extension of the Kapit-Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan-Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services (KALAHI-CIDSS), PCRP is a community-driven initiative empowering residents to identify, plan, and implement projects addressing their specific local needs.
- Walang Gutom 2027: Food Stamp Program (FSP): The DSWD is enhancing this flagship initiative to reduce hunger among poor households, targeting those experiencing food poverty.
Social Pension Program for Senior Citizens
The DSWD also provides a monthly stipend of ₱1,000 to qualified indigent senior citizens through the Social Pension Program, assisting with daily subsistence and medical expenses.
Focus on Cultural Sensitivity in the BARMM
Undersecretary Dimaporo has also engaged with leaders in Lanao del Sur to develop culturally appropriate programs for the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), specifically aimed at supporting Torils and Madaris (Islamic schools). This includes field operate and inventory of potential pilot implementation sites.
Commitment to Integrated Social Protection
The DSWD’s integrated approach to social protection aims to break the cycle of poverty by focusing on education, health, livelihood, community empowerment, and food security. The department reaffirms its commitment to efficient service delivery, empowering families and uplifting lives, ensuring no one is left behind.
