The singer Dua lipa has surprised her fans in Latin America and the world with the passage of her “Radical Optimism” tour, which covers her latest self-titled album and also her biggest hits such as “New Rules” or “Be the One.” But this has not only been due to the vocal quality and stage presence of the British artist of albanian origin: but also due to the covers of local songs from the country you visit.
From Green Day to TLC, passing through AC/DC, the singer has made at least 57 covers throughout their tour, all linked to a local artist and, on more than one occasion, they even shared the stage with the original performers.
According to a recent interview https://variety.com/2025/music/news/dua-lipa-56-covers-tour-green-day-tlc-acdc-1236554566/ that the singer gave to the magazine “Variety” she herself “had to learn songs in languages she does not speak, and not just any songs, but emblematic songs that show respect for the host cities and countries.”
Dua Lipa, 30, told the magazine that “it was my idea. I came up with it simply as I had recorded a song for the American Country Music Awards with Chris Stapleton and I had such a good time that I proposed it to the group and the team: wouldn’t it be fun to play a different song every night? And they all told me it was a pretty enterprising project.”
Regarding who chooses the songs that will be sung in each country, the singer told the magazine that “it is indeed undoubtedly a team effort, but before each stage of the tour, I make a small playlist, even though when we started doing it, in Australia, we were all together in the rehearsal room: ‘Let’s do “Highway to Hell!” [de AC/DC]!’, as it seemed crazy to us. So we got up and rehearsed it, and then we said, ‘Let’s try something else.’ In the end we didn’t play it,but I think it was by Savage Garden.
