Musicians and synth enthusiasts can now pocket a piece of music history. The Dubreq Stylophone, famously wielded by David Bowie and Kraftwerk, has returned as the Stylophone Mini—a palm-sized synthesizer retailing for $29.95.

Pocket-Sized Hardware and 1968 Design Roots

Spotted by Synth Anatomy, the shrunken hardware measures just 75x48x18mm and tips the scales at a mere 42 grams. It keeps the iconic metal-foil keyboard and stylus interface of its predecessor. There is also a dedicated slot for the miniature stylus.

That vintage machine earned heavy airtime and cult status through bands like Blondie, The White Stripes, and Pulp.

A Fully Self-Contained Instrument Built for Portability

You will not find any complex cables, companion apps, or external gear here. The instrument packs a power and vibrato switch alongside an integrated speaker. This lets players tap out melodies straight out of the box.

Yet portability comes with specific trade-offs. Synth Anatomy notes that the device omits an audio output jack entirely. Because there is no way to hook up external recording or amplification gear, players must rely exclusively on the built-in speaker.

Pushing Back Against the Digital and AI Tides

Behind the hardware lies a deliberate corporate philosophy. Stylophone CEO John Simpson links the tiny synth directly to the march of modern automation.

“In the age of AI, we wanted to make something simple, fun, and real,” Simpson said.

The company designed the unit as a physical antidote to modern digital audio workstations. Instead of endless menus, it offers immediate creative expression.

Colors, Availability, and Legacy

Buyers looking to pick one up can choose from three distinct color options: black, white, and pink.

This latest drop builds on a legacy that stretches back to an invention date of 1967, cementing the brand’s enduring status as an ultra-accessible entry point for musicians across generations.
