Gas Leak Causes Road Closures in Downtown Durham

Downtown Durham is experiencing road closures Sunday morning due to a gas leak. The incident began around 2:15 a.m. When a van struck a gas meter on East Main Street, according to Durham police.

Details of the Incident

Two individuals traveling in the van were transported to a local hospital for medical attention. As of Sunday morning, over 700 customers in the affected area are without power.

Road Closures

Authorities have closed South Mangum Street between East Main Street and Pettigrew Street, and South Roxboro Street between Liberty Street and Dillard Street. Some of these closures are expected to remain in effect until 10:00 a.m.

Emergency Response

Durham Police, Fire, and emergency crews are actively working to control the gas leak. Duke Energy personnel are on-site to address the power outage and restore service to affected customers.
