Ruud Smulders, Lisa Ostermann, and Yentl and the Boer Win Poelifinario Cabaret Awards
Ruud Smulders, Lisa Ostermann, and the comedy duo Yentl en de Boer won the Poelifinario awards at Theater Diligentia in The Hague, nos.nl reported. The Association of Theater and Concert Building Directors presented the honors during the annual Cabaretgala.
The Poelifinario stands as the Netherlands’ most significant prize for cabaret artists. Split into three distinct categories to reflect the breadth of the art form, the awards honor achievements from the preceding theatrical season.
Category Winners and Jury Praise in Den Haag
Ruud Smulders claimed his first Poelifinario in the Entertainment category for his show RUTHLESS, headliner.nl reported. Lisa Ostermann secured her second win in the Engagement category for The Boss. The jury commended Ostermann for blending pure open-heartedness with delightfully nonsensical absurdity, according to nos.nl.
The duo Yentl en de Boer earned their second Poelifinario in the Kleinkunst category for Rekhalzen. The jury praised their distinctive humor in quirky songs about obstacles, unfulfilled promises of gifts, and the bizarre experience of serenading a man on his deathbed.
David Linszen Claims Neerlands Hoop Award for Promising Talent
David Linszen won the Neerlands Hoop prize, awarded annually to the most promising emerging theater maker, StadIndex reported. Linszen performed Striptease of Death, a production that exemplifies a growing theatrical trend of defying structured transitions between sketches and musical numbers.
The awards event also paid tribute to the recently deceased cabaret artist and writer Paulien Cornelisse. Before the main prize distribution, Yentl en de Boer performed a dedicated song in her memory, headliner.nl reported.
Evolution and Trends in Modern Dutch Cabaret
While traditional stage performers contend for the VSCD prizes, a separate wave of comedians builds massive audiences entirely through TikTok, YouTube, and podcasts, including Kor Hoebe, Jawad Es Soufi, and Nienke Plas.
NRC noted that modern cabaret increasingly uses humor as a social vehicle rather than a standalone punchline. Artists such as Rayen Panday, Saman Amini, and Ayoub Kharkhach weave personal and societal integration themes directly into their narrative structures.
