Bosker and Lancee Claim National Allround Titles

Marcel Bosker and Gioya Lancee have been crowned the Dutch national allround champions in speed skating. The victories came at the National Championships following the recent Olympic Games in Milan Cortina, where some top skaters were absent.

Bosker Secures World Championship Berth

Marcel Bosker’s win secures his place at the World Allround Championships. He began the competition with a sixth-place finish in the 500 meters, 0.92 seconds behind leader Louis Hollaar. He then took the lead with a victory in the 5,000 meters, defeating Jorrit Bergsma. A strong second-place finish in the 1,500 meters, again closely behind Hollaar, solidified his position as the favorite heading into the 10,000 meters.

Remco Stam presented the main challenge to Bosker, launching an attack during the 10,000-meter race. Bosker ultimately prevailed in their direct competition. A moment of concern arose when Bosker appeared to touch a lane marker, potentially leading to disqualification, but the judges opted not to penalize him. NU.nl reports that Bosker won the 10,000 meter duel with Stam despite the incident.

Lancee Benefits from Competitor Withdrawals

Gioya Lancee also enjoyed a successful competition, starting with a fourth-place finish in the 500 meters and a third-place finish in the 3,000 meters, behind Marijke Groenewoud. She set a personal record in the 3,000 meters with a time of 4:03.93. Lancee then won the 1,500 meters, also setting a novel personal best. Her path to the title was aided by the withdrawals of favorites Groenewoud and Conijn during the championships. A third-place finish in the 5,000 meters, 21 seconds behind Sanne in ‘t Hof, was enough to secure the overall title.

Stam Finishes Second

Remco Stam achieved a commendable second-place finish in the allround championships, but fell short of qualifying for the World Championships. Brabants Dagblad reported on Stam’s performance.

Marcel Bosker expressed some disappointment with the KNSB (Royal Netherlands Skating Federation), offering a cynical applause with a wink, which he explained was directed at a friend. Sportnieuws.nl covered this post-competition reaction.
