Janou Levels Replaces Injured Lieske Carleer in Netherlands Women’s Squad
The Netherlands women’s national football team has announced a change to their squad ahead of upcoming World Cup qualifying matches against Poland and Ireland. Janou Levels of VfL Wolfsburg will replace Lieske Carleer, who has sustained an injury.
Injury to Lieske Carleer
Defender Lieske Carleer of FC Twente will be unable to join the Oranjeleeuwinnen for the crucial World Cup qualifying matches. The injury prevents her from participating in the games against Poland on March 3rd and Ireland on March 7th. Telegraaf and OranjeLeeuwinnen on X confirmed the news.
Janou Levels Returns to the Squad
Janou Levels, who currently plays for VfL Wolfsburg, has been called up as Carleer’s replacement. Levels was previously included in the Netherlands squad in October, marking her return to the team after a four-year absence. NOS reports that she even played a half against Poland during that period, making her familiar with the upcoming opponent.
Other Squad Updates
The squad also welcomes the return of Daniëlle van de Donk, who has recovered from a recent injury. Van de Donk, a 171-cap international, recently scored her first goal for London City Lionesses after her return from injury. NOS
