Italy’s Ecobonus for Electric Mopeds and Motorcycles: Reservations Open

Reservations for Italy’s Ecobonus, a financial incentive designed to promote sustainable mobility through the purchase of electric and hybrid vehicles, opened today, March 18th, for mopeds and motorcycles. The initiative, managed by the Ministry of Enterprise and Made in Italy, aims to reduce CO2 emissions and support the adoption of eco-friendly transportation options.

What is the Ecobonus?

The Ecobonus is a government incentive offering financial support for the purchase of fresh electric or hybrid vehicles. It applies to vehicles in the following categories: L1e, L2e, L3e, L4e, L5e, L6e, and L7e 1. The program allocates €30 million annually from 2024 to 2026 to support sustainable mobility 1.

Incentive Amounts

The incentive amount is calculated as a percentage of the vehicle’s purchase price:

  • 30% for purchases without scrapping an older vehicle, up to a maximum of €3,000.
  • 40% for purchases with the scrapping of an older vehicle (Euro 0 to Euro 3 homologation), up to a maximum of €4,000 3.

How to Apply

Starting at 12:00 PM today, dealers can book the incentives through the dedicated portal: https://ecobonus.mimit.gov.it/ 4.

Funding and Timeline

The Ecobonus scheme was initially established under the 2021 Budget Law, with a total allocation of €150 million: €20 million per year from 2021 to 2023, and €30 million per year from 2024 to 2026 1. For 2025, a total of €30 million has been allocated specifically for electric motorcycles and scooters 3. The Ecobonus for electric two-wheeled vehicles will be available until funds are exhausted, but no later than December 31, 2025 3.

The Ministry of Enterprise and Made in Italy introduced the Ecobonus to incentivize both businesses and individuals to purchase eco-friendly vehicles, aligning with broader European environmental targets 1.
