Eddie Redmayne and Hirokazu Kore-eda Team Up for New Searchlight Pictures Film

Oscar winner Eddie Redmayne is set to star in and produce an upcoming English-language drama from acclaimed director Hirokazu Kore-eda, known for his 2018 Palme d’Or-winning film Shoplifters. The project, a Searchlight Pictures production, marks Kore-eda’s first fully English-language feature film. Deadline first reported the news on February 19, 2026.

Kore-eda’s Expanding International Work

Hirokazu Kore-eda has built a distinguished career over three decades, directing films such as After Life, Still Walking, and Like Father, Like Son. His 2018 film, Shoplifters, garnered international acclaim, winning the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival and receiving an Academy Award nomination for Best Foreign Language Film. Beyond his Japanese-language work, Kore-eda has also directed international co-productions, including the French feature The Truth, the Korean feature Broker, and the Netflix series The Makanai and Asura. Redmayne’s Recent Projects and Producing Role

Eddie Redmayne has garnered critical acclaim for his acting roles, winning an Oscar for his portrayal of Stephen Hawking in The Theory of Everything and receiving nominations for The Danish Girl.
