An Edinburgh man died following a multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 65 in Columbus, Indiana, on Monday afternoon, according to the Columbus Police Department. Investigators stated the collision occurred just before 4:30 p.m. on October 14, 2024, involving several vehicles near the 68-mile marker.

## Columbus Police Department Investigation on I-65

Police identified the victim as 48-year-old Toby J. Burton of Edinburgh, Indiana. According to accident reports released by the Columbus Police Department, Burton was pronounced dead at the scene from injuries sustained in the crash.

The incident prompted temporary closures of southbound lanes on Interstate 65 as accident reconstruction teams processed the scene. Officers from the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department and troopers with the Indiana State Police assisted city police with traffic control and the initial investigation.

## Traffic Impact and Emergency Response

Emergency medical personnel from Columbus Regional Health and firefighters from the Columbus Fire Department responded to the emergency call shortly after the collision was reported. Responders worked to clear the wreckage and treat other individuals involved in the multi-vehicle pileup.
