Elon Musk has contributed more than 276 million dollars—equivalent to roughly 2.6 billion Norwegian kroner—to Republican political groups and his own super-PAC since July 2025, positioning the world’s richest man as the largest single donor in the US midterm elections. The total sum comes as Democrats need a net gain of just three seats to flip the majority in the House of Representatives, while opinion polls indicate tight races in the midterm cycle concluding on November 3, 2026.
Musk’s political spending has scaled up sharply despite statements in May 2025 where he claimed he would scale back his financial contributions. Total federal committee donations since the start of the 2025 election cycle have reached around 366 million dollars, surpassing the roughly 290 million dollars he spent during the 2024 election. The recent funding influx includes 158 million dollars directed to the Senate Leadership Fund, alongside 76 million dollars allocated to his own organization, America PAC, which has been active in nearly three dozen House races and across seven Senate swing states.
Shifting Strategies and Historic Donations
The massive capital injection arrives as Republican campaign strategies turn increasingly defensive. The Congressional Leadership Fund recently halted advertisements in four previously competitive House districts to shift funds toward 16 other districts, while independent analysis from the Cook Political Report shifted 18 midterms toward Democrats. Andrew Romeo, a spokesperson for Musk’s political support group, stated that These solid investments enable the party apparatus to get its message out, giving Republicans a real chance to defy historical trends,
according to TV 2.
Democratic organizations have sharply criticized the donations. Lauren French, spokesperson for the Senate Majority PAC, stated that Republicans are hoping to buy these elections. They are pumping tens of millions into the election campaigns to escape their unpopular candidates, an unpopular president, and failed economic policies.
Political Alignment and Personal Wealth
The two have since repaired relations, appearing together at recent public events where Trump awarded Musk the National Medal of Science. According to Dagbladet, Forbes recently calculated Musk’s net worth above one trillion dollar, placing the 276 million dollar midterm contribution at a fraction of his total fortune.
