eMedia Holdings has launched Openview Stream, an ad-supported video-on-demand (AVOD) platform offering free access to local and international content across seven African countries. While the service is now available to viewers in regions including Botswana, Namibia, and Zimbabwe, it remains notably absent from the South African market, where eMedia already operates its Openview satellite service.
Geographic Reach and Service Availability
The new streaming platform functions as a Free Ad-Supported Streaming TV (FAST) service, allowing users to watch content without a monthly subscription fee. According to eMedia’s official announcement, the service is currently accessible in Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho, Mozambique, Namibia, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.
The platform’s library includes a mix of news, entertainment, and lifestyle programming, leveraging the broadcaster’s existing content partnerships.
Why South Africa Is Excluded
Despite the platform’s regional debut, South African users cannot access Openview Stream. eMedia has clarified that its current strategy in South Africa remains centered on its established Openview satellite set-top box ecosystem.
